Justin Cowart, MD, is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in joint replacement surgery and reconstructive surgery of the lower extremity. He is dedicated to providing high-quality orthopedic surgery and care to patients at Valdosta Orthopedic Associates in Valdosta, Georgia.

Dr. Cowart was born and raised in South Georgia. He graduated magna cum laude from both the University of Georgia and the Medical College of Georgia (MCG) with his Doctor of Medicine. While at MCG, he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.

He went on to complete an internship and residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Medicine, where he served as chief resident of orthopedic surgery in 2017. Dr. Cowart then completed additional fellowship training in joint replacement and adult reconstruction at the Cleveland Clinic Florida in 2018.

Dr. Cowart provides comprehensive patient care for a broad array of degenerative and acute traumatic orthopedic conditions of both the upper and lower extremity. He specializes in the direct anterior approach for total hip replacement, performing primary, revision, and complex arthroplasty procedures. Additionally, he performs same-day, outpatient partial and total knee replacement, as well as foot and ankle procedures. 

Dr. Cowart uses Robotic-assisted technology at VOA Surgery Center to provide patients with precise and personalized surgical plans based on each unique anatomy. Before your hip or knee surgery, Dr. Cowart will use Mako SmartRobotics System TM and a 3D model of your joint to align, position, and secure reimplant with extreme accuracy.

He is a member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, Southern Orthopaedic Association, and Christian Medical and Dental Association.

Dr. Cowart and his wife, Jennifer, have been blessed with three sons, Cannon, Brooks, and Will. When not operating or spending time with his family, he enjoys hunting, fishing, UGA Sports, golf, and traveling.
